Who are the people behind the "van Juttersburch" Chow - Chows?
We are Jack and Tineke van der Heide-Das. We live in Gasselternijveen,a small village on the north eastern border of the country situated near Stadskanaal in the Netherlands. As far as both our childhood memories go there has always been a Chow-Chow or a very similar dog complete with blue tongue and lion appearance in our lives.
In the mid-seventies, on an afternoon walk through the town we used to live in, we came across the first Chow-Chow we would own together. We looked at each other and the Chow and decided that she would be ours.
Soon after we bought a second one.

Our first encounter with a smooth Chow-Chow was in 1979. It was love at first sight. Only did we not know that this variety was rather rare and that  before owning a smooh we needed some extreme patience.
After a visit to a breeder we were finally put on a list that gives us the right to a bitch. It was not until early 1987 that the puppy bitch Tanlap Sleek Tinka came over from Oxford (GB) to us. She stayed with us until death did us part in August 1998.
Tinka was the first one we took to dogshows all over The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. After receiving a championship in The Netherlands and Luxembourg she decided that she had had enough of dogshows.
In the meantime our older rough chows had passed away so we had room for new (smooth) chow-chows.
They were the Souh-African dark red Kirsten Flagstaf of Roseneath and the black Norwegian Mai-Ko-Chow's Lobke. They arrived in 1988 and 1989.

From her first litter we kept a dog, Pooka Red Smooth van Juttersburch and a bitch Priska the Smooth van Juttersburch. These two helped us to further built our line of smooth chow-chows. From all the litters we had afterwards we either kept one or placed one somewhere else.
Pooka Red Smooth van Juttersburch and CH. Twinki von Haus-Herth from Austria had two litters to gether.

Early 1997 the last litter of Priska the Smooth van Juttersburch was born, from that litter we kept  the black rough bitch Inga van Juttersburch. The dark red smooth bitch Janka van Juttersburch,
The year 2000 brought us beside sorrow as a result of the death of Priska the Smooth van Juttersburch on july 22nd, also a lot of joy.
On the 9th and 10th of April both Haska and Eline-Kiri gave birth to a litter of 6 puppies. In spite the busy time one has with 2 litters at once, time did fly.

Harvy Pooka van Juttersburch, who is named after his grandfather, was the last one to go to his new home, he went to the west coast of America.
On September 10th there was a descenant-day with almost all the ' van Juttersburch Chows' in the Netherlands and a few from Belgium and Danmark.
Very special was that " Grandfather Wouter", Brosscroft Harvy Pooka at his high age, made the trip from Belgium  to Gasselternijveen together with his owners.
Ever since the difficult start of our hobby we have had a spell of good fortune over the past few years with two or three litters every year. It completely depends on the number of reguests whether or not we have one of our bitches covered At his moment there are more than 100 smooth and over 70 rough Chow-Chows  in the colour red, black, blue and fawn, wich carry the name "van Juttersburch ".
It goes without saying that we are very proud of the Chow-Chows we have bred. Our Chows are friendly and affectionate and have proved to be sociable
family dogs. All chows have a good portion of energy or as owners of our chows say,, they are enjoyable strange", especially when they go for a walk and they show their masters that they are everything but the lazy daft chows some people take them for. Then they want to show that they know how to hunt for game.

If ever you want to meet us or our Chow-Chows in their home environment,
for they DO NOT  live in a kennel but in our large garden and house, simply send us a e-mail, fax or pick up the phone.

Much to our regret Kirsten did not have any puppies, so all our hope was placed on Lobke.
Fortunately Lobke turned out to be an excellent breeding bitch and she became the ancestress of the 'van Juttersburch clan'. In March 1999 she passed away.
One of the bitches of these litters, Eline-Kiri vom Wiesfeldis together with the black rough dog Cuno van Juttrsburch, the parents of  Haska van Juttersburch.
CH. Twinki von Haus-Herth
a daughter of Eline-kiri vom Wiesfeld and Fulco van Juttersburch had her first litter in 1999.
And so Ninjah and Lobke van Juttersburch, a black and a red smooth bitch, entered our house.
June 1999 came a red smooth dog from Danmark,
Bidachows Smooth Thunder Boy.
The father of Lobke, Ninjah  as well as Thunder, is the in Danmark living blue smooth dog CH.Molboredens Smooth Guldbaer.

On July 26th our Janka deliver her second litter, the father was our young dog from Danmark. One of the smooth bitches went to her fathers country, the others stayed in The Netherlands.

Ragna van Juttersburch, a red rough bitch stays at our place, she is the first red rough of our own breed that we kept. She did not stay alone, on October 23rd Tara van Juttersburch was born, she is the daughterof our Cuno who now has the age of 8.5 years.
With those two our Chow-Chow family has increased to 12 now.
On April 19th the first litter of 2001 was born.
The proud parents were Bidachows Smooth Thunder Boy and Haska van Juttersburch.
The newborn were: 2 smooth bitches and 1 smooth dog, in the surprising colours of red and fawn.

Unfortunately not every thing goes as planned for on June 26, we had to say farewell to our beloved Pooka Red Smooth van Juttersburch, the tumor in his mouth and throat could not be stopped anymore.
The emptiness he left behind is tremendous, Pooka was always very emphatically present, thank goodness we do see a lot of his characteristics in his children, grand - and great - grandchildren

On November 26, it was very busy in the delivery room, this time five pups: two red smooth dogs, two red smooth bitches and one red rough bitch.
The happy parents were Bidachows Smooth Thunder Boy and Janka van Juttersburch.

Barely 3 weeks later on Decmber the12  Ninjah van Juttersburch became a mother for the first time, 6 healthy pups. The father of this beautiful half a dozen is Lody van Juttersburch.
We give this litter the nickname "gobstopper". It took us approximately four weeks to decide wether this litter was really smooth.
All but one puppy have gone to their new owners in Holland as well as aboard.
We shall keep one black smooth bitch, which we call Silke, a daughter from Lody and Ninjah, to make sure that we have enough colour and variety in our Chow Chow famely.

On April 8th 2002 our first "full" rough litter was born, both parents Doi-Li-Chang and Ragna were just as their seven children true rough ones.
The dropping of the puppies and the first 6 weeks went without any problems.
On the exact day that the puppies were six weeks old and were about to be vaccinated, mama Ragna jumped the fence in the puppy room tearing off her hamstring and crushing the kneecaps in both her hind legs.
From that moment on the Van Juttersburch dog family automatically took over the maternal duties.
The puppies were only allowed to go to their mother in pairs for their dessert. After the weaning off Ragna was successfully operated on.
Tinka was the only puppy of this litter that stay in the family. All others found very good new homes.

Since no other litter was to be expected I decided to do take Ninjah to Agility. Ninjah, our jumping dog, really loved the course and succesfully completed it.

In November 3 bitches were in season, and although this did not have our preference, we decided to have them all three mated.
Haska for her a last litter with Thunder, Lobke for a second litter with Lody, and Tara for a first litter also with Thunder.
Fortunately all three became pregnant, so 2003 began quite busy.
Our living room was converted into a maternity ward, 3 welping boxes with all the necessities were ready.

On January 3 Haska gave birth to a healthy dog and bitch. Hardly four days later Lobke had 4 dogs and one bitch. We could enjoy this from the first contraction onwards. Finally Tara had a litter on January 10th, 3 dogs and 2 bitches.

Except for some initial problems with one puppy everything went smoothly and before we knew it all puppies had found their way to new families.
Shanti and Alvar Goldenbear went to Belgium, Smooth Chinta left for the US by aeroplane. Overthere she and two other smooths are making the life of a few Rottweilers fairly unsafe.

Since no litters were to be expected in 2003, I took Ninjah and Janka to Agility. Ninjah took the advanced and Janka the beginners course. We knew Ninjah would love it, but we were extremely pleasend to see Janka also take to the obstacle course with great pleasure.
